Can I pay for someone else's booking using my debit card or credit card?
Yes you can. Please note that the card billing address must match the address on record with the credit card company where your statements are sent. Here are some additional details to keep in mind:
Flights: Just make sure that the passenger name you enter for each airline ticket is correct. Passenger names cannot be changed after booking. All airline passengers are required to present a valid government-issued photo ID at check-in (e.g., driver's license, passport). The passenger is not required to show the credit card used to make the booking at time of check-in
Hotels: Ensure the primary guest name is correct as well. At check-in, the guest will need to present a valid ID and credit card - both must match the name under which the room is reserved. Hotels will require a credit card authorization to guarantee payment of any incidental charges that you may incur during the stay. The amount of available credit needed will vary by hotel, although some hotels allow a cash deposit to secure any incidentals.
Car rentals: At check-in, the driver will need to present his/her own driver's license and credit card, which must both match the driver's name (even if you paid for the car rental reservation on the Hotwire site). The traveler will need at least $200 in available funds on his/her own credit card to use as a deposit at check-in. If the driver is using a debit card, the car rental company will place a hold on your card for the deposit amount, and these funds will not be available until the car is returned.
Keep in mind, that while you may pay for your car rental booking with a debit card, many car rental companies will not accept a debit card as a deposit when you pick up the vehicle. You will be denied rental if you don't have a credit card for the deposit. International car rental companies will only accept credit cards and require that you have as much as $1,000 in available funds on the card.
When searching for a car rental, you can choose to see only results for companies that accept debit cards for deposit at pick-up. Since this will limit your search range, the best deal available might not show up in your search results.
